Compression molding is a method of molding when the molding material, generally preheated, is first put into an open, heated form cavity. The mold is closed which has a top force or outlet member, pressure is utilized by force the material into contact with all form areas, while heat along with pressure are maintained until the molding material includes cured; this process is known as compression molding method and if of rubber it might be known as 'Vulcanisation'. The method employs thermosetting resins in a very partially cured stage, either available as granules, putty-like masses, and also preforms.
Compression molding is usually a high-volume, high-pressure method suited to molding complex, high-strength fiberglass reinforcements. Advanced composite thermoplastics may also be compression molded with unidirectional tapes, stiched fabrics, randomly oriented linens mat or chopped strand. The bonus of compression molding will be its ability to mold large, fairly intricate pieces. Also, it is among the list of lowest cost molding methods balanced with other methods such while transfer molding and treatment molding; moreover it waste products relatively little material, giving it a benefit when working with high-priced compounds.
