Compression molding may be a method of molding when the molding material, generally preheated, is first placed in an open, heated pattern cavity. The mold is closed that has a top force or outlet member, pressure is utilized by force the material towards contact with all pattern areas, while heat plus pressure are maintained right up until the molding material provides cured; this process is known as compression molding method and just in case of rubber it is also known as 'Vulcanisation'. Doing this employs thermosetting resins in the partially cured stage, either in the form of granules, putty-like masses, or preforms.
Compression molding can be a high-volume, high-pressure method worthy of molding complex, high-strength fiberglass reinforcements. Advanced composite thermoplastics will also be compression molded with unidirectional tapes, stiched fabrics, randomly oriented fibers mat or chopped strand. The advantage of compression molding can be its ability to mold large, fairly intricate areas. Also, it is among the lowest cost molding methods in contrast to other methods such because transfer molding and injection molding; moreover it squanders relatively little material, giving it an advantage when working with pricey compounds.
